Thrash of the Titans: Testament, Overkill, and Destruction Conquer Detroit

Thrash of the Titans - Testament

We are back in the mosh pit for the latest from Fans With Bands as the metal community gathered under the banner of thrash. The legendary Thrash of the Titans tour tore through Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit. It was a night of multi-generational, neck-wrecking mayhem, proving that the old guard of heavy metal still hits harder than ever.

German thrash veterans Destruction drank from the blood-soaked chalice, blasting through a fiercely fast, razor-sharp set. Frontman Schmier snarled with venom as the band proved their new material from 2025’s Birth Of Malice is just as gloriously devastating as their classics.

Bringing the maelstrom next was Overkill. Despite founding bassist D.D. Verni sitting out this tour (ably covered by Christian Olde Wolbers), the band’s rhythm section was brutally heavy. Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth joked with the crowd between each sharp and devastating tune, while Dave Linsk delivered maximum shredding and plenty of chug.

Headliners’ Testament closed the night with a monumental display of musicianship. Chuck Billy roared through a setlist that satisfied old-school fans with classics like “Into The Pit” and “Over The Wall,” while also showcasing their evolution. Tracks from their latest release, Para Bellum, wove sinister black metal elements into their patented melodic speed, proving their 42-year legacy is still being actively written.
