Witch’s Hat Brewing hosts Fury For A Feast, a stupendous food drive featuring a bevy of beautiful beers, live local music, and community cheer.

Fury For A Feast
The 13th annual Fury For A Feast at Witch’s Hat Brewing brought beer and music enthusiasts together for a great cause. This year, the food banks at Active Faith Community Services of South Lyon and Blessings in a Backpack-South Lyon were recipients of non-perishable food donations, gate fees, and over six thousand dollars collected from their silent auction. Over the last 12 years, Witch’s Hat has collected over $155,000 in cash and 14,000 pounds of food. All of this is going back into the community of South Lyon to help feed those in need.
As you would expect in mid-August, the weather was hot and humid. It wasn’t quite as hot as our last visit in 2021, but it was close. A couple of brief rain showers cooled things off a bit, but didn’t dampen the festivities. The staff were on point, serving up Night Fury imperial stout as well as other Witch’s Hat favorites. I personally was loving the Resolve Kellerbier, with its balanced malt and hops pairing wonderfully with a tasty smash burger.
Besides bold beers and delicious food, Fury For A Feast includes outstanding local music. This year featured a blitz of Michigan music.

Izak
Getting the party started was Izak from Ferndale. A three-piece with drums, guitar, and ukulele was pure fun in the sun. A cozy mix of folk and punk is the hot dish served up by Izak. They played some dandy tunes that reminded me of The Violent Femmes, with “Be Nice (Or Else)” being a favorite.

The Hourlies
The ripping twin turbo nitro funny car rock and roll of The Hourlies did not disappoint. Gritty, loud, and packing a dynamite rhythm section, which gives the guitars a fertile field for running wild. The Hourlies have the power of the MC5 combined with the dangerous duel lead guitars of Thin Lizzy, which made for one hell of a performance. As the rain fell, the Hourlies sizzled. I couldn’t resist and picked up a copy of their latest album, Live With Yourself Or Die Trying. Packed with stellar jams, you should get one too.

The Beggars
Just when you thought this furious feast couldn’t get any more electric, along comes The Beggars. As they proceeded to tear the stage down, I kept thinking of the intro to KISS Alive, “You wanted the best and you’ve got, the hottest band in the land!!!…”, The Beggars! Playing that foot-stomping rock and roll music that makes you want to throw back a cold one and get your pelvis pumping, The Beggars were unstoppable. You’d swear this band was playing to 10,000 people as the energy on the stage had all gauges pegged to the red.

Stone Clover
A fitting green glow consumed the stage as everyone’s favorite Celtic rock band, Stone Clover, took the stage. A veteran of several Fury For A Feast shows, Stone Clover delivered a remarkable set. Led by the irrepressible Pauly Brady, the band uncorked such classics as “Awesome” and “Binge & Purge”. Stone Clover kept the pacing brisk, snapping out new music from their new album called Thieves. Of note was the powerful anti-war tune called “Battalion,” which bristles with valiant vigor. Thanks, Pauly, for the shoutout!

Dead At The Winery
Closing out the night in the cosmic glow of pink and purple lighting was Dead At The Winery playing tribute to the Grateful Dead. If you are wondering about the winery angle, the band includes folks from Northville Winery & Brewing and has been playing there every Thursday night since 2015! Folks swayed like grass in the wind as the band jammed Dead covers. I’m sure Jerry would be pleased by the impeccable performance of Dead At The Winery.
