Erin Zindle and her brother TJ from Ann Arbor’s Ragbirds stopped over to the Rumpus Room in Chelsea, Michigan for a concert to benefit Project 418.
Rumpus Room and Project 418
The Rumpus Room is a new addition to Jet’s Pizza in Chelsea where they have set up a stage and sound system for musical events and movie nights. The beauty of the Rumpus Room is you can enjoy some tasty pizza and beer from their outstanding selection of Michigan brews. This was our second visit to the Rumpus Room as we originally visited during New Year’s eve as part of our party hopping in Chelsea.
Both the New Year’s party and Erin Zindle’s performance were fundraisers for Project 418 which raises money for their charity operation in Haiti. Not only did we get to listen to some great music, but in a small way we were able to help out a good cause.
Erin Zindle
Erin Zindle was into her first set when we arrive and she had the crowd completely enthralled. Seated at the keyboard, Erin’s enchanting voice caressed the souls that packed the Rumpus Room to capacity. With deceptively simple beauty she played sumptuous songs that hold the hallmarks of great songwriters such as Carol King and Paul Simon. Erin shared stories between songs and sheepishly mentioned that this was a new experience playing out on her own and also playing the piano instead of accordion. She is a remarkable musician and any missed steps were lost in the wonderful music and her charming performance.
TJ Zindle
A bonus during this evening of beautiful music was hearing TJ Zindle play some of his solo music with Erin accompanying him on violin. TJ has a rich and melodic voice that compliments his guitar playing. I am eager to hear his solo album after hearing his performance. Erin mentioned that it was a real treat to play music with her brother in the Ragbirds and to share the stage with him during this performance. Together they also played a few Ragbirds songs which typically don’t make it into their live set for one reason or another.
We had a fun time at the Rumpus Room enjoying some Michigan beer and music. There are more pictures of Erin and TJ Zindle in the gallery.
