Cheers to feathered friends and Brewery Faisan’s fine brews. Oh, and if your Duolingo is gathering digital dust, let me fill you in—’Faisan’ means ‘pheasant’ in French. Yep, you guessed it! Co-owner Rachel Szlaga says the name is a cheeky shoutout to the local pheasants that call this urban oasis home.
Brewery Faisan
Brewery Faisan opened four years ago just a hop, skip, and pint (haha) away from downtown Detroit and Belle Isle Park (1087 Beaufait St, Detroit). Except it doesn’t feel like you are in a large city, but maybe a nature preserve? Perhaps it’s their name, Brewery Faisan, or perhaps it is a golden canopy of leaves dancing in the wind in the lot across the way.
Fourth Anniversary
To commemorate its fourth anniversary, Brewery Faisan hosted an inaugural Fall Craft Fair on Sunday, October 22nd, from 12-6 p.m. Over the past year, the brewery has taken immense joy in opening its doors to a vibrant mix of small businesses, artists, tour groups, food trucks, and pop-up shops. In light of this, the brewery felt there could be no better way to celebrate this milestone than by organizing a Fall Craft Fair, which was graced by the presence of more than 25 local collaborators.
Craft Fair
Now, if you are on my Christmas list, you should close your eyes! The craft fair was a perfect opportunity to snag a few gifts.

Excellent Beer
It was such a perfect day, too. After strolling through the fair, we enjoyed several excellent beers in their gorgeous taproom. Again, I couldn’t help thinking, why don’t we have this in our hood?
Chuck loved the beers so much that he brought home a four-pack of:
- Periphery, a wonderful raspberry saison
- Oktoberfest – who can say Märzen’s rule?
- Sympathy for the Abyss – A dynamite black IPA that surely had Chuck’s interest due to the heavy metal implications of this beer’s name.
