Blissfield On Tap pours a perfect summer night with stupendous Michigan craft beer, tasty food, and great music in the picturesque Clara Bachmayer Park along the River Raisin.

It may not have started out as a picture-perfect summer evening in Michigan as we walked over to Blissfield On Tap with a light rain falling, but by the end of the evening it definitely was. Blissfield On Tap brings together Michigan craft beer and music for a community-centered experience that’s laid back and easy.

Located in the verdant Clara Bachmayer Park, just steps from the historic downtown, Blissfield On Tap has been pulling craft beer and music fans together since 2018, yet somehow, we just learned about it. Thankfully, our friends at Four Keys had our backs and keyed us in on this small, yet mighty festival.

The Beers

I’m not sure you can have a proper summer party without Michigan beer. Blissfield On Tap, as the name suggests, had plenty of dandy beers for you to enjoy.

Four Keys Brewing

As the hometown brewery, I felt it only proper to spend a bit of time enjoying the beers from Four Keys Brewing. Their Mexican Lager, Cuatro Llaves (Spanish for Four Keys), is a delight. Crisp with a hint of sweetness, this is summer in a glass. Running a close second on the summer feels is Tropical Feel, a refreshing pink guava and pineapple sour. For German beer fans, the Porch Bier hefeweizen is hazy sunshine in your cup.

On a side note, if you are looking to stay overnight in Blissfield, check out the new Airbnb above The Starling Lounge / Four Keys Brewing. It is a gem of an apartment located in the heart of Blissfield’s historic downtown.

Venture Brewing

Recently, after visiting the River Raisin Battlefield Park in Monroe, we dropped in at Venture Brewing. I was happy to see them at Blissfield On Tap as their beers are wonderful (their pub is pretty damn cool too). One of my favorite beers was their Daytrip Pale Ale, an easy-drinking beer that shines with balanced, yet bright, hops.

Pavlov’s Brewing

During my birthday Southern Michigan beer run, we stopped by Pavlov’s Brewing in Temperance. They brought their Peanut Butter Treat porter to Blissfield On Tap. Let me tell you, I love peanut butter and this beer really is a treat. The dark malt with the peanut butter had me thinking of dark chocolate and peanut butter. Wow, it was so damn tasty!

Hear.Say Brewing

New head brewer Wayne Burns is making some superb beers over at our beloved Hear.Say Brewing in Ann Arbor. Every beer they brought to Blissfield On Tap was top tier, but hats off to the kölle.alaaf Kölsch. Fun Fact: the phrase kölle.alaaf means “Cologne Above All.”

Ypsi Alehouse

The man, the myth, the legend, Ted Badgerow, was on hand to share the beautiful beers made at Ypsi Alehouse. Every beer from the Ypsi Alehouse has a story. If you get a chance, say hello to Ted and ask him about Mr. Hare’s 1776 Patriots’ Porter, which was on tap at the festival. You’ll learn that our founding fathers more than likely drafted our Constitution while enjoying a brew that is very similar to one made with this recipe. It is an outstanding beer that I’m sure John Adams and George Washington would approve of.

The Food

The other key ingredient for a great summer party in Michigan is food. Tucked in conveniently next to the covered pavilion, Blissfield On Tap included plenty of culinary delights thanks to the Naughty Lobstah and Taqueria Nenas food trucks.

As the name would imply, Naughty Lobstah served up some impressive lobster rolls. Taqueria Nenas offered scratch-made authentic Mexican food in super-sized portions.

The Tunes

The final ingredient to a hit summer party is music. Blissfield On Tap had us covered with a full evening of entertainment. A nifty trailer stage, complete with lights and great sound, was provided by W4 Entertainment out of Adrian.

Hepcat Revival

Kicking off the music with horn-driven jazz and jump blues was Hepcat Revival. They had that classic swinging big band sound that put Frank Sinatra on top and inspired the rockabilly burn of the Stray Cats. Their repertoire also included classic rock and more. Our friend Ted Badgerow sat in for a tune on the harmonica.

Mainstream and the Family

Taking us home with hip-hop-inspired horn-forward jams was Mainstream and the Family. With a driving rhythm section, bright and beautiful horns, and lots of electric energy, this band was on fire. Their infectious energy and positive power warmed up the summer night with a set mixed with originals and cover tunes.

The ingredients are simple, yet powerful. Bring together your family and friends over delicious locally made beer, excellent food, and tasty music, and you’ve got the makings of a fantastic event. Blissfield On Tap has all that in a small historic town just a scenic drive away.
