Let the Adventure Begin – Fuckknot!

My little intro was me thinking; what if a concert goer was found wandering around after a show with a smile on their face?  That was me after this show, but when I entered the legendary Blind Pig in Ann Arbor; I hardly had a clue as to what I was getting myself into.  I had become an instant fan of Blue Snaggletooth when I saw them at Fuzzfest in April.  I figured, they were playing the Pig, so what the hell!  Imagine my amazement when I looked toward the stage to see a mechanical chimp smoking a bong!

While waiting for the show to start, I saw a familiar face.  It was Brad Erwin who had done some time with the infamous band, Harms Way.  Turns out he is the frontman and vocals for Fuckknot and the chimp is part of their stage ensemble.  I immediately started thinking “Why the fuck not?”   Fuckknot brought hardcore attitude with groove to the stage.  For an opening band, they drew a hell of a crowd and everyone got into the unrelenting in your face intensity of the band.

Fuckknot finished up their set with shots out of a plastic sheep’s ass.  Yes, you read that correctly!  Not exactly sure what the drink was.  I’m thinking it was Jagermeister.  Brad poured it from a gas can into a blow-up sheep’s ass and presto!  Sheep Shots!  Stop by the gallery to see more pics of Fuckknot!

Blue Snaggletooth: Riding the Millennium Falcon

With barely a break, Blue Snaggletooth took the stage.  They hit the ground running and never let up.  That is what I love about this band.   They play heavy and with abandon.   You can see in their faces that they love playing live and loud.

Blue Snaggletooth

If you weren’t familiar with the band, I’d say they sound something like The Sword and Red Fang.  I failed to grab a setlist, but I know I heard the sword anthem of Zweihander along with the furious focus of Fireball Island.   This band is infectious, uncompromising, and just plain awesome.  If you love dueling lead guitars, bestial bass (finger style baby…no fuckin picks!), and absolutely devastating drums, then you will need to check out Blue Snaggletooth.  They were named Best Rock Band in Current magazine for the second year running.  They also have new music coming out this Fall!  For more images of Blue Snaggletooth, drop by the gallery.

Getting Jiggy with Mike Hard

The Mike Hard Show felt like a sermon on the Mount fueled with LSD.  It was fantastic!  The band cut a groove that emanated raw power.  I’ve never really experienced a band like this.  Mike Hard started out on the stage, but quickly joined the audience and extoled the virtues and sins of rock.  He laid hands on the faithful and anointed them in the sweat of his labors.  The crowd was a bit tame as I could easily see a hungry crew churning this punk revival into a swirling maelstrom.

Mike Hard Show

Once again, I didn’t end up getting the set list, however I’m pretty sure I heard Lets Go To Hell with the great line “you’ve got Satan in your pants!”.  Hell yeah!  Then there was the climaxing and mega-heavy groove of Jack Off.  Just a great performance and entertaining as hell!  The gallery has more pics of the Mike Hard Show.

I don’t think it gets much better than to wander in to see one band and end up with a full evening of music and spectacle that you never dreamed of.  It makes me happy to know that there are so many ways to create, express, and share our experience in this world.  We’d love it if you’d subscribe to our newsletter, or follow us on FacebookTwitterPinterestTumblr.  Cheers!
