We gathered at PJ’s Lager House in Detroit to live life loud with Red Stone Souls, Bonehawk, Slumlord Radio, and Kommander.

Red Stone Souls rock party at PJ’s Lager House

When the stars align and you see some of your favorite bands will be at one of the best bars in Detroit, you drop everything and get your ass out to that show. Such was the case when the Red Stone Souls hosted a raging rock show at PJ’s Lager House with Bonehawk, Slumlord Radio, and Kommander. To say this bill was stacked is an understatement. The level of talent on PJ’s stage was ridiculous. This show easily had some of the very best rock bands in Michigan together for one night of glorious grooves and atomic power punching riffs.

Kommander

You know you are in for something special when Batman walks into the bar and gets on stage with the band. Somehow before this night, I had missed seeing Kommander live. That glaring omission was taken care of as I witnessed Kommander blaze with righteous jams. The sweet and tangy guitar and fuzz riddle keyboards blended to create expressive rock jams. The snapping drums and popping bass gave each tune muscle to move you. Drop by the gallery for more pictures of Kommander.

Slumlord Radio

Slumlord Radio was a great musical find for me this year. I first saw them tearing it up at the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer fest in March. As they had at the beer fest, Slumlord Radio came out swinging for the fence. Their brand of hard rock is punk-fueled and dialed up to 11 on the Marshall stack. Like other powerhouse three-piece units such as Husker Du and Motorhead, the guys in Slumlord Radio play hard and loud. It was just what the doctor ordered. Head over to the gallery for more photos of Slumlord Radio.

Bonehawk

What is not to love about harmonized lead guitars, punchy bass, and an avalanche of killer drums? Bonehawk has never failed to put on an outstanding show with rock music that harkens back to the guitar-driven anthems of UFO and Thin Lizzy. Their show at PJ’s featured a handful of new tunes from their upcoming album. The new music finds Bonehawk digging deeper into rich harmonies and massive grooves that defy description. Word has it that you can catch Bonehawk tearing it up at Fuzz Fest again this year. For more pictures of Bonehawk, check out the gallery.

Red Stone Souls

I’m not sure how in the hell Red Stone Souls are not a national band. If you jones for hard rocking tunes built on monumental grooves and washed in a psychedelic haze, then the Red Stone Souls have your fix. Their new album ‘Mother Sky’ is a testament to the immortal strength of masterful songwriting expressed through mountainous riffs. While the recording is great for delivering the essence of their music, it is through live performance that the Red Stone Souls give you the true depth of their conviction to the splendor of rock music.

This evening of outstanding rock music at PJ’s Lager House reaffirmed my admiration for the talented musicians in Michigan. The Red Stone Souls along with Bonehawk, Slumlord Radio, and Kommander are some of the very best in rock and together they gave a brilliant performance.
