Count on the Parliament Room at Otus Supply to bring in the best jams. Tonight features the exceptional rock infused with southern soul of the Gasoline Gypsies and the new standard in country music, Myron Elkins and The Dying Breed. A double header guaranteed to satisfy anyone that loves southern rock, blues, and country music.

The Gasoline Gypsies

It has been far too long since I’ve embraced the Gasoline Gypsies live. Their blend of southern rock with Detroit muscle is an intoxicating mix. Just in case you are new to the band, The Gasoline Gypsies are Joe Makowski (drums), Neal Love (guitar), Caleb Malooley (vocals, guitar), and Steve Briere (bass).

Just as when I got to see the Gasoline Gypsies at Top of the Park, I was enthralled with their performance. The rich and powerful vocal harmonies, twin guitars singing, and the bass and drums pumping are what rock music is all about. The Gasoline Gypsies are the cream of the crop. It is always a joy to hear “Walking Trouble” and sing along to “Freaks and Nonbelievers.”

What blew me away was the amazing cover of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe” rolling into their original “Something’s Got To Give.” The cover was unexpected and made for a great segue between tunes. Once again, the Gasoline Gypsies put on one hell of a show.

Myron Elkins and The Dying Breed

Myron Elkins hit my radar thanks to my friend Dianna Stampfler and her son Caleb. I was very impressed with Caleb’s guitar playing and vocals when I saw his old band, Heathen Daniels, at the Dark Horse 4 Elf party in 2016. When I found out he was playing with Myron Elkins and the Dying Breed, I had to check this out.

Myron takes a new look at old-school country with hints of rock, soul, and the blues. It is as if you took Johnny Cash, Lefty Frizzell, Marshall Tucker, and The Flying Burrito Brothers, tossed in a pinch of Sturgill Simpson and Cody Jinks, and then let that batch stew over the coals for an hour or so. Doesn’t that sound delicious? Well, dear friends, I can tell you this recipe is a winner.

Myron casually approaches the stage at Otus Supply and knocks me down with his music. Joining Myron on stage are Nate Johnson (bass), Avry Whitaker (guitar), Jake Bartlett (drums), and the aforementioned Caleb Stampfler (lead guitar). This band swings, hitting every pocket. The heartbeat drums, and bass stand back to give the vocals and guitars room to run.

Honky Tonk

I loved the rowdy honky tonk vibe of “Factories, Farms, and Amphetamines” and “Old Trauma.” You’ve got Myron’s rich, sonorous voice along with some damn fine guitars and that masterful rhythm section keeping the train running hot. Myron traded his Gretsch for an acoustic to get into “P.T.S.D” from his Just Another Asshole With A Guitar EP. He closed the band’s set going solo and playing the evocative “Lesley” where he invited a fan onstage to help him sing.

Myron Elkins and The Dying Breed put on a magnificent show. This young band will be huge one day. Hopefully, their new album will be out soon. In the meantime, see this excellent band live and show them some love.
