Manchester Fireworks Display is a Family Tradition

by | Jul 9, 2017 | Travel | 0 comments

The Manchester Fireworks display at Carr Park is a 4th of July family tradition. There is always a cookout, live music in the beer tent and an awesome fireworks display. The Manchester Men’s Club sponsors the event and collects donations at the gate.

Manchester Fireworks

Why the Manchester Fireworks? Well, they are simply the best in Washtenaw County. There isn’t a bad seat and hints of a carnival are sprinkled throughout Carr Park.Vendors sell corn dogs, cotton candy, elephant ears, popcorn, slushies. You name it. Kids play frisbee and carry on the tradition of catching fireflies while they wait for the show to start. Young entrepreneurs walk through a patchwork of blankets and lawn chairs selling peanuts and glow in the dark toys. I was particularly jealous of one family who brought pillows and what appeared to be hors d’oeurves. I rolled up an extra blanket for my head and fished a mint from the bottom of my purse while I enjoyed the pre-show. My family used their phones to scan the sky for planets and satellites.

Beer Tent

Around Memorial Day, Chuck starts talking about the half gallon “Naty Light” beer he plans drink on the 4th of July. Why? That is a very good question. I simply don’t have a good answer. Chuck says “Its a family tradition”. Ok then.

Every year I pray they’ve swapped the Natural Light Beer for a Michigan Craft Beer. This prayer has not been answered. I will continue to pray. If you curious, this is how the world looks after you’ve drank a half gallon of beer.

Music

Along with the Natural Light beer, there was live music. This year, the cover band Star 69 provided the music. The tunes ranged from classic rock to country to dance music. This popular Manchester band lifted everyone’s spirits and created a festive atmosphere.

Cookout

The Day Family served a delicious meal before we made our way to Carr Park for the fireworks. What could be better than burgers and brats on the 4th of July? Throw in some potato salad and you have a hallmark all-American meal.
