Emergency Bluegrass System – Testing, Testing, Testing

We kicked off our evening with some food and beers at the Chelsea Alehouse. The Axe Handle IPA and Holz Hausen Smoked Porter were just what we needed to get our Friday evening off to a great start.

Besides being a fun name for a band, Emergency Bluegrass System is a local super-group of musicians. Handling vocals and guitar was Kyle Rhodes from Wire In The Wood. Jason Dennie of the mighty Thunderwude provided vocals and his dazzling mandolin.

The twin threat on the fiddles included Andy Eggleston from The Bluegrass Revolution in California and Aaron Jonah Lewis from the Corn Potato String Band.

The bass and soul of the band were covered by Spencer Cain, who has recorded with Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys as well as jamming with Mark Lavengood’s Bluegrass Bonanza. Finally, they had Keith Billik whose magical banjo playing has graced the music of Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys and Mark Lavengood’s Bluegrass Bonanza. That is an outstanding ensemble by anyone’s definition.

Warm Music to heat a cold Winter night

Kyle and Jason provided harmonized vocals for the Emergency Bluegrass System on several tunes, including “Moutain Girls”, “Mighty Dark To Travel”, and “Lay Down My Old Guitar”. The entire band poured on the thrills with their superb performances on these tunes as well as “Banks of the Ohio”, “Blue Night”, and “Road to Columbus”.

The Emergency Bluegrass System gave the crowd at the Alehouse two sets of fabulous bluegrass music. The band appeared to have as much fun as the audience leaving smiles all over the room. In addition to the music, the event raised over 300 dollars for a worthy charity which the band had selected. Our area is rich in musical talent. Thanks to venues like the Chelsea Alehouse, we have an opportunity to see some of our state’s wonderful talent up close and personal.
