A Badger Crossing on Lake Michigan

by | Oct 1, 2014 | Beer, Travel

In September we boarded the S.S. Badger Ferry in Manitowac, Wisconsin and crossed Lake Michigan to arrive in Ludington, Michigan 4 hours later. The Badger ride was tacked on to the end of our 2014 U.P. Adventure that included the U.P. Beer Festival in Marquette and a hiking in the Porcupine Mountains.

A friend shared with us they’d encountered 10 foot waves during their Badger ride so we were a bit anxious. I’m pleased to report we didn’t not encounter 10 foot waves, only beautiful water and sunshine.

But we did find a few surprises on the S.S. Badger Ferry.

Beer

Chuck was pleased to find Michigan Craft Beer. They had Stormcloud Brewing’s beer on Tap — A fine Michigan brewery located in Frankfort, Michigan. The Rainmaker Ale was a nice beverage to enjoy as we cruised the seas (okits a lake).

Wind

I’m not sure why, but the wind surprised us.

Tasty Food

There were plenty of food options including home made vegetable soup and fresh salads.

We arrived at the car ferry dock in Ludington at sunset.

We left the dock and zoomed to Muskegon to have dinner and check out Unruly Brewing.

2012 Michgian Winter Beer Festival

I've not always been a beer fan and I'd have to say I'm still more of a fan of the culture than beer. This was my 3rd Winter Beer Festival and the Michigan Brewers Guild's 7th.  Over 6,000 tickets were sold this year and in record time.  It was the largest crowd to...
